If you read this post in time and happen to be in the Phoenix, Arizona area, you must rush out to the Hoop Dance Competition happening at the Heard Museum. Exhilarating! Impressive! And you will feel so much pride, even if you haven’t got one ounce of Native American in you. Wow.
After enjoying the competition or if you can’t make it, do visit the museum in the near future. Its one of the most comprehensive, extensive and well curated museums Auntie and I have visited. The gallery section devoted to the Boarding Schools Experience is painful but necessary to experience. We also really loved the Allan Houser exhibit, “Tradition to Abstraction”
