As I’m sure you are aware, I am obsessed with the Speak Easy. Even chewing on following my own tips on How to Throw a SpeakEasy Party for my upcoming birthday (full disclosure: I’m also considering a “Soul Train” theme. Good job Kevin!) And dare I say, if I got married? Might even be the same theme.

If Auntie and I were organizing a Speak Easy Wedding, we’d like the experience to be much like the scene in the movie “Kitty Foyle” starring Ginger Rogers. In the film, she and a suitor knock on a random brownstone door, are greeted by the proprietor into what seems like a very unassuming empty foyer. They walk a few steps, open another door and POW, there are patrons, a bar, all sorts of entertainment. We are very enamored by the “hush hush-ness” of the idea. Wouldn’t it be great if the second room was decorated like the nightclub scenes in “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day”. All lush with crystals, flowers, chandeliers and grand piano?

The visuals we have in our head for this themed wedding are quite extraordinary. However, they’re just in our head. If you’d rather see someone who pulled off a 1920s themed wedding successfully, do we have the blog for you. Its appropriately called “My 1920s Wedding”. The author, Katharine Swan, is devoted and very knowledgeable about this wonderful period and will certainly flood you with ideas for your 1920s/Great Gatsby/Speak Easy themed wedding or next event.
